The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently issued its annual report on the damage caused by natural disasters during the past year. Not surprisingly, 2017 holds the unwelcome record of being the most damaging year since NOAA began tracking these statistics. Sixteen natural disasters during 2017 each caused more than $1 billion in damage, and account collectively for a total of $306.2 in losses. While this statistic is staggering enough, it does not account for the destruction caused by smaller, but still powerful, natural events.

A just-released FEMA report sounds the alarm that many of the nation’s fifty million school children are at risk because of aging school buildings, or buildings that do not meet basic resilience standards to withstand a natural disaster. To help protect vulnerable school buildings, as well other critical structures in areas threatened by natural disasters, ERA is stepping up its efforts to provide information about resilient roofing systems. Our website, EpdmTheResilientRoof.com, offers specifics about designing an installing a resilient roof, and the unique characteristics of EPDM that can help to ensure that a roofing system will withstand a natural disaster.
